SCORPIO SOUND SUPPORTS EXPLOSIVE JULY 4th FOR BOSTON POPS AND AEROSMITH WITH JBL VERTEC® LINE ARRAYS

NORTHRIDGE, CALIFORNIA, September 26, 2006 — A crowd estimated by police to be 500,000 strong celebrated Independence Day at and around Boston’s renowned Hatch Shell, an outdoor concert venue adjacent to the Charles River near downtown, by listening to the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra and Aerosmith rockers Steven Tyler and Joe Perry. With a musical program that ranged from “Walk This Way” to Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture, the annual event opened with 17-year-old local American Idol finalist Ayla Brown singing “The Star-Spangled Banner,” and concluded with a 23-minute fireworks extravaganza. Scorpio Sound provided concert audio services for the event, including JBL VERTEC line array systems.

In addition to the massive onsite live audience, millions of viewers also watched the July 4th event with a one-hour television special broadcast over the CBS television network. “Production for this event is all about the TV show,” explained Scorpio Sound’s Kevin Delaney. “Offstage scaffolding towers are positioned to support the main concert arrays near the Hatch Shell, and these are fully draped to give a visually attractive presentation for the broadcast screen.” Delaney noted that numerous additional satellite delay towers were positioned far from the performance stage area to serve outlying crowd areas, which stretched along the banks of the Charles River.

Scorpio’s sound reinforcement approach for the primary concert stage included main left/right arrays of 12 VT4889 full-size line array elements with a pair of under-hung VT4887 compact line array elements on each side. Additionally, arrays of six VT4880 full-size subwoofers were flown left and right. “Above all, the JBL VERTEC system is versatile,” commented Delaney. “The system sounds terrific when used for a symphonic orchestra, as well as for full-on rock and roll.
