SE SYSTEMS WINS BEST TOURING PRODUCTION
T.E.C. AWARD FOR ALISON KRAUSS AND
UNION STATION TOUR

SE Systems cites use of JBL Professional VERTEC® line array loudspeakers as key factor in the tour’s success.

NORTHRIDGE, CALIFORNIA, October 20, 2006 — JBL VERTEC® system owner SE Systems of Greensboro, NC has been named the recipient of a 2006 TEC Award for Outstanding Creative Achievement in Tour Sound Production for the North American tour of Alison Krauss and Union Station, featuring Jerry Douglas. The award was presented to SE Systems as well as FOH engineer Bernie Velluti and monitor engineer Mark Richards. The award was presented at the 22nd Annual Technical Excellence & Creativity Awards on Saturday October 7th at the San Francisco Hilton, held during the recent Audio Engineering Society Convention.

According to SE Systems owner Cliff Miller, the use of JBL VERTEC line arrays has proven to be one of the keys to the tour’s success. “JBL's VERTEC system has worked out extremely well for us on the Alison Krauss tour,” he said. “We try to make the sound system as transparent as possible to maintain the purity of the acoustic instruments and Alison’s vocals. With the VERTEC line arrays, we are able to amplify the instruments through microphones without any additional built-in pickups. This provides us with significantly more gain at the mixing controls than with other line array models.”

The TEC Award is the result of a successful relationship between Alison Krauss and SE Systems over the past several years. SE Systems has provided sound reinforcement for Krauss’s North American tours since 2001. “We’ve been in the business for 33 years and this has been the best tour group we’ve ever worked with,” Miller said. “It’s been a great relationship and after the years we’ve been together, it seems like the band is just as excited as we are.”

"Acoustic music and complex vocal harmonies demand the best from a sound system," noted David Scheirman, Vice President, Tour Sound, JBL Professional. "Artists, and shows, like Alison Krauss and Union Station featuring Jerry Douglas, have a 'signature sound' and acoustic music and bluegrass audiences expect to hear a natural, high-fidelity presentation, even in the large-scale venues where promoters have taken this successful touring act. It takes a veteran, specialized concert sound company like SE Systems to fulfill those audience expectations. All of us at JBL are proud to see TEC Award voters honor SE Systems and the unique nature of this pure-sounding acoustic music touring show.”

Founded in 1985, the Technical Excellence & Creativity Awards is the foremost program recognizing the achievements of audio professionals. Presented annually by the Mix Foundation for Excellence in Audio, the TEC Awards honor the individuals, companies and technical innovations behind the sound of recordings, films, TV shows and live performances.
