SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA, October 6, 2006 — In a unique demonstration of the power and ease of use of JBL Professional’s VERTEC® Series line arrays, leading sound company Sirius Showequipment AG recently provided a massive VERTEC-led audio system at an address by Pope Benedict XVI in Munich, Germany. The event, staged on September 10 in an open air field known as Neue Messe München Riem, was part of a six-location series of large Papal addresses and outdoor masses in the Pope's home country of Germany.
The event in Munich marked a return to the city where Pope Benededict XVI served as archbishop, where a crowd of 250,000 congregated. Other locations on the Pope’s trip included Regensberg, Marktl am Inn and Altoetting.
Rental sound system provider for the Munich event, along with several of the other locations, was Sirius ShowEquipment AG. Sirius provided a Crown-powered JBL VERTEC system in cooperation with Crystal Sound, another regional owner of JBL VERTEC equipment.
JBL VERTEC speaker systems in use included 64 VT4889’s and 44 VT4887’s. The compact VT4887's were used as the main PA hangs closest to the stage. Additionally, 12 VRX932 compact constant-curvature line array systems were in place for use as near-fill speakers. The JBL VT4889's were used for long-throw coverage to overflow crowd areas. Besides the JBL line arrays, additional supporting loudspeaker systems were also used throughout the audience area. |
Key audio crew members included Klaus "Bob" Bolender (JBL VERTEC system engineer), Frank Müller (mixer for the music program) and Holger Münz (mixer for the main Papal stage). "We have used JBL VERTEC line array systems for numerous special events and challenging projects. The lightweight enclosures, predictable array coverage patterns and powerful but refined sound quality made it an ideal choice on this project," noted Wolfgang Neumann of Sirius Showequipment. "The VT4887 arrays served the critical audience areas closest to the stage platform and altar area, combining compact array size with high fidelity and impressive output capabilities."
