NORTHRIDGE, CALIFORNIA, January 4, 2007 — Demonstrating the versatility and reliability of JBL VERTEC® line arrays, Shattered Glass Group’s A.V. & Staging division recently provided a portable VERTEC system for the Coca-Cola Colab Live on Tour Concerts in South Africa. A major multimedia entertainment production designed to carry Coca-Cola’s corporate message to music-loving audiences throughout the nation, the Concerts were presented in coordination with regional promoters and radio stations. The six-hour show featured a mix of up and coming South African talent and leading local artists.
A total of 24 VERTEC VT4888 mid-size full-range line array elements were combined with 16 full-size VT4880 subwoofers to create a sound system to meet the presentation and staging needs for the tour project. Stages were set up in public spaces and sports stadiums in major South African cities at venues such as ABSA Stadium in Durban, ABSA Stadium in East London, Stan Abbot Park in Cape Town and The Royal Show Grounds in Pietermaritzburg.
The JBL VERTEC system was powered by Crown I-Tech amplifiers, and Shattered Glass deployed their new dbx 4800 DriveRack loudspeaker management system for the events. Soundcraft MH3-40 consoles were used for front-of-house and monitor systems, while JBL SR712M monitors provided onstage support. “We had crowds ranging from 8,000 to 16,000 at every show on the tour, and the sound system performed flawlessly every time,” advised Alex Sanfilippo, technical director for the Shattered Glass Group. “The JBL VERTEC system has always sounded good, but when driven with the new dbx 4800 DriveRack, the sound has an even smoother quality to it.”
