GLOBAL ADOPTION OF JBL VERTEC® LINE ARRAYS CONTINUES AT WORLD MUSIC FESTIVAL IN MALAYSIA

NORTHRIDGE, CALIFORNIA, July 30, 2007 — Demonstrating the reliable performance of JBL Professional VERTEC® line arrays, audio rental company Chan Lee Sound & Light provided the live sound system for the “World Music Festival 2007—Penang” in Malaysia. The 3-day event featured 20 musical acts from 13 different countries.

The World Music Festival was held at the Quarry Garden in Penang (next to the famous Botanical Garden), and included an eclectic mix of world-renowned artists such as Dizu Plaatjies’ Ibuyambo (South Africa), Farafina (Burkina Fasao), Narasirato Pan Pipers (Solomon Islands), Wicked Aura Batucada (Singapore), Huun Huur Tu & Malerija (Tuva/Russia), Tammorra (Italy), Inka Marka (Peru/ Chile/Australia), Foghorn Stringband (USA), and Ensemble Kaboul (Afghanistan).

The Festival drew an average audience of 5,000 people per day, and featured a main stage and smaller side stage. Chan Lee Sound & Light provided a JBL VERTEC VT4888 mid-size line array system for the main stage, supplemented with VT4880 full-size arrayable subwoofers. A JBL HLA system was used for the side stage. Audio output of the two systems and stages was linked for optimum coverage of the entire audience when acts were performing on the side stage.

According to Desmond Lee, front of house system engineer for Chan Lee Sound & Light, the VERTEC system performed exceptionally under harsh weather conditions. “We had constant rain throughout the festival,” Lee noted. “When the rain became really heavy, and the bands had to stop playing due to safety reasons, our VERTECsystem was kept active for playback music to calm the audience. Even with three days of rain and 20 bands, the VERTEC system performed well, providing loud and clear sound reinforcement throughout the audience area.”

“As regional rental companies like Chan Lee Sound & Light upgrade the available audio system inventories in developing regions with JBL VERTEC, the global touring entertainment community can be assured of high-quality results no matter where they travel around the world,” noted David Scheirman, Vice President, Tour Sound for JBL Professional.
