SCORPIONS ROCK CYPRUS WITH JBL VERTEC® SYSTEM FROM MKG TOURING TECHNOLOGIES

LONDON, ENGLAND, September 10, 2006 — Scorpions is a hard rock band from Hanover, Germany that helped to define the musical genre. The venerable group is perhaps best known for their 1980’s rock anthem, “Rock You Like a Hurricane.” Scorpions has been touring Europe throughout 2006 in support of a recently-released live concert DVD (One Night in Vienna). The band’s July 23 outdoor show at Tsirium Stadium in Limassol, Cyprus was handled by rental firm MKG Touring Technologies, with the company’s JBL VERTEC® VT4888 mid-size line array system.

MKG Touring Technologies’ concert audio system for Scorpions at Tsirium Stadium consisted of 24 VT4888 line array elements, deployed in two main columns of 12 enclosures each, with 16 supporting full-size 2 x 18-inch subwoofers. All loudspeakers were powered by Crown MA3600VZ and MA5002VZ amplifiers. Signal processing included three FDS366 loudspeaker system controllers from BSS. “MKG’s JBL VERTEC system has a lot of headroom,” noted Achim Schulze, veteran front of house sound mixer for Scorpions. “We will rock Cyprus again with this system.”

Scorpions was presented to an 8,000-person audience of local residents and vacationers by Moonlight Productions, a new company established to plan and organize concerts and artistic performances in Cyprus. The live concert industry in Cyprus has grown significantly in the past few years, with recent live performances by varied artists such as Elton John, Deep Purple, and Luciano Pavarotti. Officials at the Cyprus Tourism Organization, working in coordination with event promoters like Moonlight, are making a significant outreach to attract international visitors.

“Live concerts are an ideal way for tourist destination locations to offer entertainment events for area visitors,” observed David Scheirman, Vice President, Tour Sound for JBL Professional. “MKG’s success in Cyprus with acts as diverse as the pristine operatic style of Pavarotti and seriously hard rock acts like Scorpions, demonstrates the flexible capabilities of both JBL loudspeaker products, and MKG’s professional approach to meeting production needs of international touring acts.”
