| FRANKFURT,
GERMANY, 29 March 2006 — In an engineering
breakthrough that adds to the power and versatility of JBL Professional’s
VERTEC® line array series, the company has developed an innovative
Ultra Long Excursion 460mm (18”) transducer with 2000 watts
continuous (AES), 8000 watts peak power handling capacity. The
model 2269 is the latest example of JBL’s patented Differential
Drive® dual voice-coil loudspeaker technology, and is fitted
with dual voice coils and magnetic gaps, and an ultra-robust
composite cone. It provides high output capabilities with an
extremely advantageous power-to-weight ratio and is available
only in JBL’s two newest VERTEC subwoofers, the VT4881ADP
compact powered subwoofer and VT4880A full-size passive subwoofer
system products.
“The VERTEC series has established itself as the leading
line array option through its power, fidelity and versatility,” said
David Scheirman, Vice President of Tour Sound, JBL Professional. “By
incorporating the new 2269 transducers, the VT4881ADP and VT4880A
provide audio professionals with enhanced subwoofer capabilities
in areas such as concert audio and multimedia presentations where
extended low-frequency performance is desired.”
The new Ultra
Long Excursion 18” transducer features dual
neodymium magnets, JBL’s exclusive Vented Gap Cooling™,
and robust suspension elements for high excursion and extra long
life. The new woofer is capable of a peak-to-peak maximum excursion
of 89 mm (3.5”).
First field use of the new component has been achieved by ATK
Audiotek of Burbank, CA. The world-renowned rental sound firm
has already deployed a total of 48 2 x 18” subwoofers,
JBL’s new 2269-equipped VT4880A, for numerous high-profile
corporate productions, concerts and awards shows. Included in
a diverse list of demanding special events have been Microsoft’s
Global Briefing at the Georgia Dome, the 2006 Grammy Awards at
Los Angeles’ Staples Center, and the 2006 Academy Awards
at L.A.’s Kodak Theater.
“We’ve now deployed the new VT4880A subwoofers in
a variety of circumstances. JBL’s new Ultra Long Excursion
18” component provides significant benefits for ultra low-frequency
fidelity, and has proven to be 100% reliable in our professional
applications,” noted Scott Harmala, CTO/VP Engineering
for ATK Audiotek.
The VT4880A
is designed to deliver high-fidelity sound reinforcement of
sub-low frequencies for a wide variety of live music and A/V
support applications. The versatile, centrally vented enclosure
houses two 2269H 460mm (18”) Ultra Long Excursion transducers.
The enclosure features advanced construction techniques, replete
with JBL PlyMax® engineered panels and a rugged DuraFlex™ exterior
finish. The VT4880A has a frequency range of 25-160 Hz with a
maximum peak output of 142 db, 1 m (2p, half-space, ground-based
applications). The system weighs only 83.9 kg (185 lbs.), including
supplied integral suspension hardware.
Also employing
the new 2269 18” transducer is the newly-developed
VT4881ADP. This compact, powered subwoofer enclosure houses one
2269G Ultra Long Excursion 460mm (18”) woofer. The enclosure
features advanced construction techniques including JBL PlyMax® engineered
panels and a rugged DuraFlex™ exterior finish. The VT4881ADP
includes a JBL DrivePack® DP1 fully integrated power and
digital signal-processing electronics package. The JBL DrivePack,
developed in cooperation with Crown and dbx, brings leading-edge
technology to the VERTEC DP Series including patented high-efficiency
Class-I power amplifier technology and onboard digital signal
processing.
