| NORTHRIDGE,
CA, September 1, 2004 — Top sound designer
Wade Wilson relied upon the balanced clarity of JBL LSR6328P
loudspeakers with Room Mode Correction to create the sound environment
on Dreamworks’ highly successful animated feature, Shark
Tale which took the box office record for the largest October
theatrical release in history.
In fact, Wade has
been relying on JBL LSR Series since Wilson’s
feature film career began with The Perfect Storm. There he was
responsible for creating sounds for the sea and the intense super
high-speed winds during storm sequences. The film was nominated
for the Academy Award® for Best Sound.
“I have been using the original LSR series since the beginning
of my career and now, the new LSR6300’s because they translate
so well to the dubbing stage,” said Wilson. “They
give me a sound that’s so full and round and everything
is so present in the mix. I can’t find another speaker
that produces that way for me.”
After The Perfect Storm, Wilson used the JBL LSR Series to design
sound for a sequence of box office hits including the animated
hit Shrek, Elf, Unfaithful and Mystic River.
For his work on Shark
Tale, Wilson found that the new LSR6328P with RMC™ Room
Mode Correction allow him to quickly and easily tune the loudspeakers
to the specific room and have greater
low frequency accuracy at the mix position. has a set of LSR6328Ps
in his own design suite at home, and also works out of Technical
Sound Services where there is another LSR6328P installation.
The LSR6300 Series is exciting to those working in post-production
in part because of its sonic consistency with JBL large-format
cinema systems used in theatres and post-production dubbing stages.
“The LSR6328Ps translate well to the stage because they
are so balanced throughout the spectrum,” Wilson stated. “The
LSR6328Ps are wonderful in eliminating standing waves that throw
off my ability to reference true bass in some material before
the final mix days.”
That balance shows up in the design of the LSR6328P, which is
rapidly becoming the choice for stereo and multi-channel music
and post audio applications where accuracy and high SPL are required.
With ruler-flat +1 dB/-1.5 dB response from 50 Hz to 20 kHz,
low-frequency extension to 36 Hz, boundary compensation and JBL's
new RMC system, the LSR6328P provides exceptional low-frequency
performance in any room. The system is bi-amped with a 250 Watt
LF amplifier and a 120 Watt HF amplifier. Wall mounting provisions
make the LSR6328P perfect for installation in multi-channel editorial
rooms.
For Wilson, the technology comes in handy since the sound designer
is often moving between studios and from edit suite to mixing
stage, where the sound characteristics can change dramatically.
Keeping a solid reference of what the sounds are is critical.
This is especially true in an animation film where every sound
is created from scratch. Stability and consistency then become
very important.
“The Room Mode Correction is great,” noted Wilson, “ because
we are often moving speakers to different rooms each with a different
set of standing waves that change the bass. They can cause you
to mistakenly remove bass elements, but with RMC I have no problem
with that. The bass is perfect even in chase scenes, explosions
or action sequences with lots of rumbling. With the RMC, I can
stay in control right from the start.”
