JBL PROFESSIONAL SHOWCASES NEW ADDITIONS TO
PD5000 PRECISION DIRECTIVITY™ LOUDSPEAKERS
AT PLASA 2004

New PD5000 loudspeakers deliver uncompromised performance and unprecedented versatility for a wide variety of fixed installations.

LONDON, ENGLAND, September 12, 2004 — Providing a loudspeaker line that delivers high power and constant coverage in a low-profile form factor, JBL Professional is exhibiting four additions to the Precision Directivity™ PD5000 Series. The loudspeakers include the new two-way PD5200/43 (with a 40X30 coverage pattern), two three-way PD5322 models (PD5322/95 and PD5322/64 with 90X50 and 60X40 coverage patterns respectively) and a full-range two-way PD5212/43 model (40X30 coverage pattern).

The PD5212/43 features a horn-loaded 12-inch low frequency driver, a large format high-frequency compression driver and delivers frequency response from 80 Hz to 18 kHz. The PD5212/43 has been especially engineered for music or speech applications where frequency extension to 80 Hz is adequate or can be coupled with subwoofer for extended bandwidth, full-range systems.

PD5200 loudspeakers feature a high power 8-inch dual-coil CMCD™ Cone Midrange Compression Driver, providing high sensitivity and high continuous SPL capability with low distortion, extended bandwidth and improved phase coherence. The large format neodymium HF driver provides clear, intelligible high frequency projection.

The PD5322 are three-way loudspeakers based on the PD5200 mid /high design with the addition of two JBL Professional 2206 Vented Gap Cooled™ 600 watt 12” transducers providing LF extension to 40 Hz. PD5322 models provide a true full range frequency response for installations requiring high performance in the smallest enclosure size without compromising pattern control. PD5322, which share common enclosure dimensions with the PD5200 and PD5212 series, facilitate compact and efficient array design.

Featured across the PD5000 Series, newly developed 24 by 24 inch PT™ Progressive Transition mid-frequency rotatable waveguides that provide versatility, excellent pattern control with low distortion and extremely natural sound character. This is an evolution of the waveguide technology of the successful JBL Professional Application Engineered (AE) install series. Also incorporating sophisticated, steep-slope passive crossover networks minimize band overlap, further enhancing off-axis pattern control. User accessible internal switches allow for a fully active crossover.

“The JBL Professional PD5000 Series is truly a loudspeaker family for all seasons — and many applications,” said Ted Leamy, Director of Engineered Sound Marketing for JBL Professional. “The new PD5000 Series will enable contractors and consultants to provide their clients with advanced precision control and power handling in instances where a small footprint is required.”

Loudspeakers from the new PD5000 family have been installed in the challenging environs of St. James Park football (soccer) stadium, home of English Premiership super-club Newcastle United. In Newcastle, the PD5000 loudspeakers coexist with loudspeakers from JBL Professional’s PD700, AE and Control Contractor product lines, illustrating how all JBL Professional-brand loudspeakers are voiced to perform optimally either as part of an integrated system or individually. This is because all JBL Professional loudspeakers from the smallest install product to the most advanced large-format line arrays are designed and voiced at the same design and manufacturing facility in Northridge, California.

According to Leamy, the PD5000 Series is perfectly suited for fixed installation at houses of worship, performing arts centers, collegiate stadia or traditional stage theaters. “Despite its remarkably small size, the PD5000 does not compromise on coverage pattern, power or intelligibility,” he continued. “As such, the line is especially appropriate for installations wherever music and the spoken word are being projected. This includes theater, music venues and worship applications.”

Headquartered in Northridge, California, JBL Professional is the world’s leading designer, manufacturer, and marketer of professional loudspeakers for recording and broadcast, musician, cinema, touring sound, commercial sound and contracting applications. JBL Professional is part of the Harman International network of professional and consumer audio companies.
