YORK, NEW YORK, January 30, 2006 — Demonstrating to
the world the high power and flexibility of the JBL VERTEC® Series
line arrays, leading audio provider MSI (Maryland Sound International)
supplied a top-quality sound system for the festivities on New
Year’s Eve at Times Square. With live performances by Mariah
Carey, Mary J. Blige, Nick Cannon and Puddle of Mudd, among others,
Times Square drew nearly one million spectators for the event.
Beginning officially at 6 p.m., the night concluded with the
famous New Year’s Eve Ball marking the beginning of 2006
at midnight.

MSI
provided the audio system for New Year’s Eve at Times Square,
featuring live performances by Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige and
Nick Cannon, among others.
The
only company ever asked to provide audio in Times Square for
New
Year’s Eve, MSI once again turned to JBL for its
line array solutions. Dispersed across numerous intersections
in the Times Square area were JBL VERTEC clusters, comprising
VT4889 full-size models, complemented by VT4880 and VT4882 subwoofers.
All clusters were arrayed using MSI’s proprietary pole-mount
system, allowing for a large number of loudspeakers to be hung
without interfering visually with the event. “The placement
of the line arrays is very discreet, and they blend in nicely
with the overall environment while providing a crucial element
to the festivities,” said Bob Goldstein, president of MSI.

The
sound system for New Year’s Eve at Times Square centered
around JBL VERTEC line array clusters.
With
MSI handling front of house duties for three of the four stages,
even, balanced sound coverage over large distances was
a top priority. “We not only needed a powerful loudspeaker
system, but one that was lightweight and easy to assemble,” said
Ryan Beck, front-of-house engineer for MSI. “The VERTEC
products have all these qualities, and with their predictable
sound, we know exactly what to expect even before we’re
up and running.”
Founded in 1966, MSI has built a reputation as one of the world’s
leading special-event audio/video rental contractors, having
provided systems for the Los Angeles and Seoul Olympics, various
presidential inaugurations, and the dedication of the World War
II Memorial in Washington, D.C. “JBL is pleased to have
MSI using VERTEC in one of the biggest sound reinforcement events
of the year,” said David Scheirman, Vice President of Tour
Sound, JBL Professional. “A company like MSI does not become
a long-time industry leader by cutting corners with technology,
and this is evident in both their choice in loudspeaker systems
and the quality of their deployment.”
