KING CENTER REDESIGNS PERFORMANCE SPACE WITH JBL VERTEC® VT4888 LINE ARRAYS

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA, March 16, 2006 — Demonstrating the power and flexibility of JBL VERTEC® Series line arrays, the King Center for the Performing Arts in Melbourne, FL recently underwent a $1.3 million renovation to create a space more conducive to live performances. With improved acoustics and sightlines, the new King Center features a high-end sound reinforcement system, including 16 VERTEC VT4888 mid-size line array elements with six VT4880 subwoofers.

According to Rance Caldwell, technical supervisor and the head of audio at the King Center, the venue was rebuilt with acoustics in mind. “The major renovations done here provided a much-needed change,” he said. “Prior to last summer, there was a huge lighting bridge above the stage and you felt removed from the main space if you were sitting in the balcony.”

The result of the redesign is a large, open performance space that seats 2,000 and boasts a high-end audio system that was designed in conjunction with ASR ProEvents, a Longwood, FL-based audio consulting firm. Since re-opening, the King Center has hosted acts such as Vince Gill, the Moody Blues, Loggins & Messina, and Clay Aiken.

The sonic accuracy and adjustability of the VT4888 proved to be a perfect fit for the new King Center. “The VT4888’s are really conducive to the space, and the mid-to-high frequencies are very smooth,” Caldwell noted. “We were able to hang them a little bit higher and aim them down to get the exact coverage we needed.”

“The renovation at the King Center is an excellent example of experienced, creative audio professionals utilizing the power and versatility of the JBL VERTEC Series to create a flawless acoustic environment that will live up to the standards set by the artists performing on stage,” said Ted Leamy, Vice President of Installed Sound, JBL Professional. “We look forward to continuing our successful relationship with the King Center for years to come.”
