VEGAS, NEVADA, October 22, 2004 — Escondido, CA-based
rental sound company Sound Image deployed a stadium-sized JBL
VERTEC® line array system for Jimmy Buffett’s recent concerts
which took place at Boston’s Fenway Park in September.
The system, providing smooth and even coverage for 35,000 persons,
demonstrated JBL’s reliability in outdoor stadium events—one
of the most challenging environments for live sound.

Jimmy Buffett is one
of the entertainment industry’s most
enduring and successful box-office draws. His shows regularly
sell out, and after 40-plus albums along with more than 30 years
of non-stop touring, Buffett is a franchise unto himself. The
singer-songwriter brought his own version of “Margaritaville” to
Fenway Park in Boston, home to the Boston Red Sox. For the concerts,
a Sound Image crew headed by F.O.H. mixer Rich Davis set up 80
2x15” full-size VT4889 line array elements along with 40
VT4880 full-size arrayable subwoofers. The six-man crew had only
nine hours to load in, adjust and tune the stage setup and massive
stadium rig, due to overnight travel from New York City. For
the larger-than-usual system setup, Sound Image relied on supplemental
VERTEC equipment from regional owner Scorpio Sound, located in
nearby West Bridgewater, Massachusetts.
Sound Image was one
of the first world-class touring concert sound companies to
invest in JBL’s VT4889 system, and now
has over 240 enclosures in their rental inventory. “Sound
Image has been handling concert sound needs for Jimmy Buffett
for more than 30 years,” advised Ross Ritto, a founding
partner and CEO of Sound Image. “Throughout the years,
we’ve relied on JBL loudspeaker components to ensure that
our custom system designs meet our client’s rigorous needs
in the touring industry. Now, with the availability of JBL’s
VT4889 full-size line array system, equipped with our proprietary
composite enclosure technology, it is possible for our engineers
to succeed on even the largest sound reinforcement projects with
a high-fidelity audio system that is remarkably compact and lightweight,
yet extremely powerful.”
In addition to flagship client Jimmy Buffett, the company regularly
packages and deploys large-venue sound systems both regionally
and worldwide for leading entertainers like Lenny Kravitz, Toby
Keith, Rod Stewart and Eric Clapton.
“There are only a few companies able to not just survive
in the global concert industry, but grow and prosper over the
decades,” observed David Scheirman, Director of Tour Sound
for JBL Professional. “Sound Image is one of those companies.
With a staff of competent soundmixers who really know how to
get it right for international artists, they also maintain a
state-of-the-art rental system inventory to meet any concert
or special event challenge. All of us at JBL Professional are
honored that Sound Image relies on JBL VERTEC line array systems
for their most discriminating and valued clients.”
