| NORTHRIDGE,
CALIFORNIA, March 18, 2005 — JBL Professional today announced that its successful
LSR6300 Series Studio Monitors were used in the control rooms
of the 47th Annual GRAMMY® Awards, broadcast live from the
Staples Center in Los Angeles this weekend. An audio production
team, led by producer and Advisor to the GRAMMY ® Awards
Telecast, Phil Ramone, and Michael Abbott, Grammy Audio Technical
Manager, sought a monitoring solution that would provide reliability,
accuracy and, above all, uniform voicing in multiple control
rooms.

Designed for professional
recording and broadcast applications, the LSR6300 Series Studio
Monitors include features that optimize
response in the room, and ensure greater accuracy at the mix
position. Reliability for the broadcast of the live event is
crucial, according to Ramone. “We needed a dependable system
that would give us equal voicing in all rooms and the JBL LSR6300s
delivered,” he said.
Four control rooms, handling the 5.1 mix, audience reaction,
audio tape playback and sweetening, were outfitted with JBL LSR6300
Series monitoring systems. A dedicated high-definition viewing
room equipped with an LSR6300 5.1 system was configured at the
Staples Center to allow production executives to monitor the
show in surround sound during the live broadcast.
Paul Sandweiss, President
of Sound Design Corporation responsible for the 5.1 broadcast
mix said, “I’ve been using
the JBL LSR Series at my studio, Sound Design. It was important
for me to do the 5.1 broadcast with a speaker I knew. The LSR6300s
translate to the real world, and the fact that they can be “tuned” to
the room is a real plus. The response to the show has been wonderful.
I’m hearing it was the best show ever.”
According to Michael
Abbott, speaker standardization this year made a difference. “This year, we wanted a common voicing,
room-to-room ” he said. “The uniformity of the LSR6300s
gave the mixers an advantage when striving for the seamless presentation
of the audio portion of the show, whether it came from pre-produced
material, live, audience reaction or other sources.”
While JBL Professional
Studio Monitors were used in production control rooms at the
Staples Center, ATK AudioTek’s Mike
Stahl chose JBL VERTEC™ Line Array for reinforcement of
live sound in the Staples Center.
In addition to JBL
Professional’s role as supplier of
speakers for the hall and control rooms, the 47th Annual GRAMMY
Awards were particularly special for JBL Professional because
the company is the recipient of the 2005 Technical GRAMMY Award.
The Technical GRAMMY is awarded to a company or individual in
recognition of contribution to the advancement of recorded sound.
The Technical Grammy was first awarded in 1994.
