| NORTHRIDGE,
CALIFORNIA, July 30, 2004 – Demonstrating
the reliability of JBL VERTEC? line arrays in acoustically difficult
venues, Toronto-based PA Plus handled the sound duties for pop
star Nelly Furtado’s Canadian tour, which took place during
July. The sound system for the tour featured 16 VERTEC VT4889
line array elements, powered by Crown I-Tech amplifiers.

The tour’s largest show took place July 15 at the Molson
Amphitheatre in Toronto, an open-air facility that includes a
covered pavilion with reserved seating for 9,000 as well as lawn
seating for an additional 7,000. The show, staged in a reverberant
setting, was a resounding success, related Neil McDermott, Vice
President of PA Plus. “The Molson Amphitheatre is always
challenging in that its construction is mostly glass and concrete
surfaces,” he said. “The venue is reflective and
very hard-sounding. So the challenge is precision focus for system
control—keeping the speakers focused to take the architectural
elements out of play as much as possible.”
PA Plus was able to
address the venue’s acoustical challenges
with the VERTEC rig, which can be set up and controlled in a
precise manner. “The best-sounding shows I’ve witnessed
at the Molson Amphitheatre have all been line array systems,
and those with JBL VT4889’s have been the best,” McDermott
added. “We’ve had our VERTEC system for about a year,
and it never ceases to please in its application. The FOH engineer,
Jeffrey Holdip, had never mixed in the venue before, but was
able to dial everything in quickly, and our VERTECs maintained
his mix and the focus of the show’s energy throughout the
evening.”
The VERTEC VT4889 was the first in a growing family of line
array system products that now includes the VT4880 and VT4881
subwoofers along with mid-and small sized line arrays. The enclosures
can be mixed and matched to accommodate nearly any concert, special
event or other sound reinforcement application.
