| NORTHRIDGE,
CALIFORNIA, September 6, 2005 — Underscoring
the reliable and consistent sound of the JBL VERTEC? DP Series
with DrivePack™ technology, leading educational institution
Full Sail Real World Education in Orlando, FL recently purchased
a new live sound system consisting of eight JBL VERTEC VT4888DP
Series integrated audio systems with DrivePack technology. The
purchase is the first part of a complete Harman Pro Group HiQnet?
audio system, which links system components from different Harman
companies with a network control software package. The VT4888DP
Series units, along with Crown-powered VERTEC VT4880 subwoofers,
are being used for Full Sail’s Show Production and Touring
curriculum, a compressed 13-month Associate of Science degree
program dedicated to technical theory, engineering skills and
design concepts within the live production industry.

Image As Full Sail’s Program Director of Show Production and
Touring, Dana Roun has always made it a priority to simulate “real
world” conditions to better prepare his students for their
experiences in professional audio. “Our approach has always
required utilizing current industry equipment with hands-on labs,” Roun
said. “We buy gear that students will see when they leave
here. Students learn audio systems starting from separate components
and follow signal flow by setting up simple systems first, building
amp racks, and learning how to interface FOH and monitor areas.”
According
to Roun, the fact that the JBL VERTEC DP Series system utilizes
complete digital signal processing makes it an ideal
learning tool. “We plan to use the entire system including
HiQnet technology within our production labs,” he said. “These
labs feature live artists performing on stage. Students learn
many positions including engineering for conventional and moving
lights, front of house, monitors, simulcast recording and a three-camera
video shoot.”
Since the
Show Production and Touring program’s inception,
Roun has seen a significant increase in the curriculum’s
popularity. “This year the program has grown over 20 percent
from the previous year,” he said. “We started out
offering ‘concert sound and lighting’ curriculum
beginning in 1981. The advent of the 13-month program in October
1998 enabled us to expand to include a far more comprehensive
curriculum for incoming students. The depth of training can go
way beyond what might be available during a seminar or course
offered within a recording program.”
“As the live sound industry continues to be shaped by
evolving technologies and growing markets, the need for entry-level
education is more imperative than ever before,” noted David
Scheirman, Vice President of Tour Sound, JBL Professional. “The
use of JBL VERTEC line arrays by Full Sail--one of the world’s
leading educational institutions for production and touring—is
a testament to the reliability and ease of use of the VERTEC
series.”
Co-developed
with Harman Pro Group sister companies, Crown International
and dbx Professional, the JBL VERTEC DP Series with DrivePack
technology power modules couple seamlessly with VERTEC loudspeakers.
The JBL VERTEC DP Series delivers superb audio quality with robust
reserve power, and digital electronics perfectly matched to the
enclosures. JBL Professional is now offering networked versions
of the DP Series models. These integrated audio systems use HiQnet
System Architect Software™ for remote configuration control
and monitoring.
