RENOWNED SOUNDMIXER CHRIS FOGEL SHAKES THE BOTTOM WITH JBL PROFESSIONAL LSR LOUDSPEAKERS FOR THE SCORE OF NEW FEATURE FILM: 13 GOING ON 30

NORTHRIDGE, CA, August 15, 2004 – Chris Fogel, one of Hollywood’s A-list sound recording/mixing professionals, recently purchased JBL’s new LSR6300 studio monitors for surround mixing and recording of major feature film projects. With a list of accomplishments as long as a reel of film, Fogel, when taking on the latest Jennifer Garner feature, 13 Going on 30, needed to have the highest level of accuracy and versatility.

When preparing for the Garner film, Fogel knew he had to upgrade his speakers. A demo was arranged by JBL Professional engineers at Fogel’s studio featuring 5 of the LSR6328P models along with the LSR6312SP powered subwoofer and included JBL’s patented Room Mode Correction (RMC™) technology. The RMC Calibration Kit allows a user to quickly and easily tune new loudspeakers to the specific requirements of a given room’s acoustics.

After the demonstration, Fogel quickly embraced the LSRs. “I knew I needed more heft than what my other speakers were providing. Once the people from JBL Professional dialed in the room mode correction delivering that good bottom end, I knew I had all I needed to get to work on the score for this film.”

The JBL Professional LSR6328P is the choice for stereo and multi-channel music and post audio applications where accuracy and high SPL are required. With ruler-flat +1 dB/-1.5 dB response from 50 Hz to 20 kHz, low frequency extension to 36 Hz, boundary compensation and JBL's new RMC system, the LSR6328P provides exceptional low frequency performance in any room. The system is bi-amped with a 250 Watt LF amplifier and a 120 Watt HF amplifier. Wall mounting provisions make the LSR6328P perfect for installation in multi-channel editorial rooms.

The LSR6312SP powered subwoofer is based on a 12" woofer with JBL's patented Differential Drive® and 250 Watts of power. An integral bass-management system offers all the features needed for today's multi-format surround production including: LCR and Direct LFE inputs, summed output for chaining multiple subwoofers, -4 dB alignment setting, and the RMC system.
“ The Room Mode Correction is the key to the versatility of the LSRs,” said Peter Chaikin, Director, Recording and Broadcast, JBL Professional. “That adaptability and accuracy has allowed the LSRs to shine in a setting like Chris Fogel’s studio. We are very excited that a sound professional of Chris’s caliber has chosen the LSR6300s.”
Based out of Los Angeles, Chris Fogel is a recording engineer who records and mixes film scores as well as working with multiplatinum recording artists. In the pursuit of those two endeavors, he has worked on numerous big-name projects and has earned a Grammy nomination. He started out as a DJ in the local clubs, and eventually turned his attention to sound engineering, assisting others for a time. His first big break came in 1995 when he worked on Jagged Little Pill for Alanis Morissette. Since then, he has worked with a cornucopia of big-name artists, including Aerosmith , Sheryl Crow, U2, and Quincy Jones, among others. He also began working on film soundtracks, quickly building up quite a resume in that department. Among his cinematic credits prior to the current, 13 Going on 30, are Charlie's Angels, Miss Congeniality, and Cruel Intentions.
In fact, it’s this diversity of work that has helped Fogel make his choice of the LSRs. “The strong low end is important not only because of the demands of mixing for picture, but also my style of mixing for the music projects,” said Fogel. “If I'm mixing a record, I prefer to mix with the sub off. That's one reason why I liked the LSR6300s - because they still maintain a full-range feel even without the sub on.”
