JBL PROFESSIONAL AND ATK ROLL OUT VERTEC®
RED CARPET FOR ESPN’S ESPY AWARDS

NORTHRIDGE, CA, August 10, 2005 — Revealing its ability to provide high-quality, robust loudspeaker systems for its customers who handle the world’s most prestigious events, JBL Professional announced that ATK Audiotek Corp. had designed, installed and operated a VERTEC® line array sound system for the recent ESPY Awards. Held at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood, the event has become one of the most anticipated live awards shows on television.

In addition to demanding high-quality sound reproduction and excellent coverage, the system had to be easy to rig to satisfy not only broadcast television demands, but to meet the unique requirement of the facility’s architecture. For all of these reasons, full-size VERTEC VT4889 line arrays were chosen. The VT4889’s are part of a broad range of VERTEC line array loudspeakers that offer easy rigging, high-quality sound and excellent coverage for most any venue, no matter the size. ATK’s configuration of VT4889’s for the Kodak Theater provided the coverage and output the venue required, while filling the dramatic architectural space with premium–quality sound.

“ Safe, simple rigging is one of the many advantages of the VT4889,” said ATK Audiotek’s Mike Stewart. “It is versatile and lightweight. It allows us to put in the number of cabinets needed without excessive weight loads.”

In fact, because the set for the ESPY Awards extended beyond the proscenium, it nullified the existing installed house system; ATK has found VERTEC systems to be an ideal fit in that space. The company uses them for many programs at the Kodak Theatre, including the Academy Awards show and American Idol.
The rig for the ESPY Awards consisted of two main clusters of VT4889’s, dictated by the fact that live music was a big part of the show as well as dynamic videotape packages played back into the auditorium. With so much high-quality music performance content for the show, ATK deployed its highest-quality line array system.

“The JBL VERTEC VT4889 gives us the response, SPL and flexibility required for the demanding TV industry,” Stewart said. “Time is money and ATK Audiotek needs a speaker that performs in any environment. The VT4889 is that speaker.”
