| NORTHRIDGE,
CALIFORNIA, June 14, 2005 — In a high-profile and historic
demonstration of the JBL Professional VERTEC® line array’s
ability to provide full sound while maintaining a discreet
physical appearance, the legendary rock trio Cream reunited
for four shows in London’s Royal Albert Hall during the
week of May 2, 2005. Providing the audio rig and sound engineering
for the “in-the-round” concerts was Luton, England-based
Concert Sound, Ltd.
Building
on its existing relationship with lead guitarist and Cream
co-founder Eric Clapton, Concert Sound chose the JBL VERTEC
line array, which has been the speaker of choice for Clapton’s
solo concerts over the past year. Additionally, Concert Sound
has handled the sound duties for Clapton’s annual residency
at Royal Albert Hall over the past several years.

VERTEC VT4889 full-size line array elements comprised the
center cluster,
accompanied by two arrays of 14 VT4889s on each
side. For audience seated within the choir stalls, Concert Sound
specified two additional hangs of VT4888, JBL’s midsize
three-way line array. Additionally, custom JBL-loaded monitors
were used as stage monitors and additional fills.
According
to FOH engineer Chris “Privet” Hedge,
the benefits of the VERTEC system are numerous. “VERTEC
has worked beautifully in this room, I get a full-range sound
from the flown arrays and am not dependent on subs at all,” Hedge
said. “There are no sightline issues, which is great with
all the seats sold, so our production management team loves it,
too.”
JBL’s
VERTEC VT4889 was the first in a growing family of line array
system products that now includes the VT4880, VT4881
and VT4882 subwoofers along with mid-and small sized line array
elements and the new self-powered VERTEC DP Series. The enclosures
can be mixed and matched to accommodate nearly any concert, special
event or other sound reinforcement application.
