MEETING SERVICES BRINGS MUSIC TO WEEKEND COMMUNITY FESTIVAL
with help of JBL Professional VERTEC® series

NORTHRIDGE, CA, June 21, 2004 —Demonstrating how JBL VERTEC® line array systems are ideal for urban applications where space is a premium and noise control is a priority, San Pedro, CA recently hosted a two-day outdoor music festival for an audience of more than 5,000 at the Port of Los Angeles. Held May 15-16, the first of the Contessa Foods “Concerts On The Waterfront” series featured ‘80s rock and pop acts including Berlin, the FIXX, and the Psychedelic Furs on the first day, while the second day featured Latin artists such as Poncho Sanchez and Pete Escoveda, headlined by samba legend Sergio Mendes. This new concert series, organized by technical producer Greg Herreman Productions, was promoted by the City of Los Angeles to highlight musical and cultural diversity in this industrial-area community.

All production equipment for the festival, including sound, lights and staging, was supplied and coordinated by San Diego-based Meeting Services, Inc. Because the event took place outdoors in a heavily populated area, MSI’s technical director Ken Freeman opted to use JBL’s flexible VERTEC product line, setting up eight VT4889 line array elements per side. These were supplemented by double-18” subwoofer enclosures loaded with JBL 2241 woofers. All speakers were powered by Crown amplifiers. “With outdoor venues in urban environments, a key challenge is avoiding noise complaints,” Freeman said. “VERTEC line arrays allow us to control the sound coverage pattern very well. With volume being an issue, we were able to predict this in advance using the VERTEC Line Array Calculator software; we have come to really trust its accuracy.”
