JBL PROFESSIONAL UNVEILS NEW VERTEC™ LINE ARRAY SYSTEM VERTEC™ LINE ARRAY SYSTEM INTRODUCED BY JBL PROFESSIONAL

LONDON & LOS ANGELES, SEPTEMBER 10, 2000 — After an intensive research and development process, JBL Professional has introduced the model VT4889 VERTEC ™ (Vertical Technology) Line Array System at the PLASA and AES conventions. VERTEC is a three-way enclosure system that  has been designed and built to improve upon the array physics of other commercially available systems. The lightweight VERTEC cabinets (152 pounds/69 kilograms fully loaded including rigging) offer higher output and less distortion than the direct competition.

" There is great demand for high-powered, lightweight array modules that really work well together in different situations and with VERTEC, line array systems have been taken to a new level," stated Michael MacDonald, President of JBL Professional. "The product development team has taken a close look at the real needs of professional system owners and users, and come up with some advanced technologies that combine to make what we believe is an unbeatable package...a new-generation product based on fundamental acoustic principles."

JBL’s RBI™ (Radiation Boundary Integrator), an innovative, patent-pending acoustic element, is used to integrate the midrange and high frequency waveforms in a multi-way system, audibly and measurably improving the coverage and frequency response characteristics. New purpose-built components have been designed for VERTEC, including the NDD™ (Neodymium Differential Drive ®) model 2250J mid frequency transducers and model 2255H low frequency transducers with dual voice coils. The surprisingly compact 2345 compression driver, fitted with a beryllium diaphragm, is also a new design with patent-pending diaphragm assembly and phasing plug innovations.

Each VERTEC enclosure includes two 15" low frequency transducers, four 8" mid frequency transducers and three compression drivers coupled to JBL’s high frequency waveguide. With angled top and bottom surfaces, the trapezoidal box allows the VT4889 speakers to be precisely arrayed while the fronts of the speakers remain in contact with each other. The enclosure is made of composite materials with aluminum baffle braces for maximum inertial grounding. It measures only 47.75" wide by 19.25" high by 21.5" deep (1213mm x 489mm x 546mm). When stacked the long way, VERTEC enclosures easily fit two high in most standard tour transportation configurations allowing more cabinets to fit in less space. Each VERTEC speaker also comes with its own removable protective front cover, doubling as a fitted dolly for easy mobility from truck to stage.
