FIREHOUSE PRODUCTIONS ROCKS LIVE EARTH WITH JBL VERTEC® LINE ARRAYS

NORTHRIDGE, CALIFORNIA, July 7, 2007 — In one of the highest-profile applications of JBL Professional VERTEC® line arrays to date, Firehouse Productions is providing concert audio services for the Live Earth concert held on July 7 at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The concert is one of several Live Earth concerts held on the same day around the world, spanning seven continents over 24 hours and bringing more than 100 artists to 2 billion people. Founded by Kevin Wall and led by Al Gore and the Alliance for Climate Protection, Live Earth is designed to spark awareness and solutions to the current crisis of climate change. Artists performing at the Giants Stadium event included The Police, Dave Matthews Band, Kanye West, Smashing Pumpkins, Roger Waters, Alicia Keys and more.

The event audio system at Giants Stadium features a multi-array setup based on VERTEC line array elements, with 154 separate VERTEC loudspeaker enclosures in use. The main stage reinforcement system includes two main arrays of 16 VERTEC VT4889 line array elements each, twin 14-box outfill arrays, and twin 14-box suspended arrays of VT4880 subwoofers. Three delay towers include a total of 36 VT4889’s with supporting VT4880 subwoofers for additional coverage at the rear of the stadium.

“JBL VERTEC line arrays are ideal for an event like this because they’re very easy to hang and they provide highly focused sound without a lot of tinkering,” said Mark Dittmar, System Engineer, Firehouse Productions. “Equally important is their reliability, which is a huge benefit for such a large event like this, when time is at a premium and we have to sound-check for about 20 different acts.”

The Giants Stadium venue is one of several Live Earth shows around the world that are featuring JBL VERTEC systems. In Sydney, Australia, a large VT4889 system is being deployed by veteran concert firm Jands Production Systems. In Brazil, Latin America’s premier concert sound company, Gabisom, is fielding a huge JBL VERTEC system at the Copacabana Beach event. Gabisom’s VERTEC inventory includes new JBL VT4880A subwoofers with JBL’s ultra long-excursion 2269H 18-inch transducers, and the company’s newly-developed VT4889-1 full-range line array elements with PlyMax™ enclosures.

According to Paul Bauman, Director, Tour Sound Product and Application Engineering for JBL Professional, the Live Earth events clearly mark the global acceptance of VERTEC line arrays. “Now that VERTEC is maturing and the system is specifically requested by soundmixers handling major international artists, I’m pleased to see veteran firms like Jands, Gabisom and Firehouse getting the credit they deserve for their excellent work at these events,” noted Paul Bauman. “Bryan Olson, Mark Dittmar and the team at Giants Stadium are using proven line-array system and sound design techniques to tame a massive venue for some of the world’s most discriminating artists,” added Bauman, who worked onsite with the Firehouse team during setup at Giants Stadium to optimize VERTEC system performance. “I wish I could be on three or four continents at once--it would be very gratifying to have a chance to see and hear VERTEC systems tailored by top professionals to perform as designed--especially when these systems are being deployed in support of such a worthy cause.”
