Innovative JBL Speakers Provide Concert Quality Sound for American Airlines Center

DALLAS, TX - Today's arenas and sports palaces require the best
of everything and the audio system is no different. At the American
Airlines Center, becoming the preeminent sports facility in
the nation required taking an innovative, cutting edge approach
to the concert-level sound system. Designers Wrightson Johnson
Hadden Williams (WJHW) of Dallas turned to
JBL Professional to tackle the audio challenges inherent in
a facility as huge as the American Airlines Center. WJHW worked
closely with the Harman Professional Projects Group and the
JBL Custom shop to define the audio challenges and develop and
employ new technologies.
One of the
major innovations solved the problem of how to provide low frequencies
(bass) evenly to every seat in the arena. Low frequencies canbe
very problematic, especially in huge rooms such as the arena.
The JBL Custom shop developed a new, Precision Directivity
technology that effectively allows the low frequencies to be "steered"
at specific areas of the arena to assure even bass coverage throughout.
These speaker clusters can be seen at four locations within the
arena.
