NIDA'S PARADE THEATRE IN AUSTRALIA RECEIVES THE EVO TREATMENT

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – NOVEMBER 11, 2002 – Australia's premiere theatre school, the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) has recently installed a JBL EVO system in its 730-seat Parade Theatre. NIDA provides training for careers in the entertainment industry, including actors, stage managers, designers, scenery, costume and properties makers, directors, and voice and movement teachers. With alumni including Mel Gibson, Baz Luhrmann, Judy Davis and Cate Blanchett, the school has a reputation to live up to and requires the best of the best in every aspect.

Construction of the Parade Theatre was part of Stage II of NIDA's renovation. The speaker system installed in the finished theatre, designed by NIDA Technical Director Tony Youlden, features a central cluster of four JBL EVOi.324 speakers and two JBL SP125S subwoofers. Three JBL EVOi.324 hang in a vertical array on each side of the proscenium. The speakers are so discreet, that Youlden sometimes has to point them out when discussing them.

“We needed a system for a broad range of activities,"Youlden said. "If we're doing a musical, we use the central cluster. But for general drama and normal reinforcement, left and right are enough. The design provides extra flexibility in the system, so we can get it up and running very quickly."

NIDA has staged two plays since the installation of the EVO speakers. The new system, operated by NIDA students, was used during Country Music, which featured two live musicians. The second play, Jarrabin, used music and other effects during dynamic scenes depicting fires and floods.
