SOUTH AFRICA'S MORELETA DUTCH REFORMED CHURCH COMMISSIONS NEW
JBL VERTEC® DP SERIES POWERED LINE ARRAY SYSTEM
|
|
| NORTHRIDGE, CALIFORNIA, July 11, 2006 -- The Moreleta
Park Dutch Reformed Church in
Pretoria, South Africa recently
commissioned a new JBL VERTEC DP Series powered line
array system
with JBL DrivePack® technology and HiQnet™
networking for their new 7,200-seat auditorium. The
church
serves a growing worship community that now includes over 17,000 members. With three balconies and a new presentation
stage nearly the size of the congregation's entire previous church
building, a
sound reinforcement system was required to
complement the unique modern design of the venue and to
serve a broad variety of applications, including worship services,
live broadcasts and contemporary music
concerts. Chris Leeson
of Claasen Auret Inc. Consulting Engineers and Chris Jonker,
Technical Director
for the Moreleta Church, collaborated on the
design specifications for the networked audio sound system.
A group of 20 JBL VT4888DP-CN midsize powered line array
elements, arrayed in two sets of ten
enclosures, is supplemented
by 12 JBL ASB-6128 subwoofers to ensure complete coverage
of the entire
auditorium. The system design is focused upon
clarity and vocal intelligibility as well as the full frequency
response and highest audio fidelity required to accurately
reproduce contemporary gospel music.
"A compact, yet powerful line array system able to provide both
clarity and
overall coverage was essential in this application,"
advised Gustav Teitge,
engineering project manager for Wild &
Marr, whose engineering team put
forth the successful proposal
for the new Moreleta Church system installation in response to
the specifications from Claasen Auret Inc. JBL's Line
Array
Calculator software and EASE (Enhanced Acoustic Simulator
for
Engineers), simulation software programs that enable system
designers to
predict in advance the performance of a sound
system in a given venue,
were used. "The sound system team
was impressed by the accurate correlation of the theoretical
performance and the results achieved upon testing
and
commissioning of the system," noted Teitge.

The VERTEC DP Series system with JBL DrivePack technology
features
integral power amplification designed and engineered in
cooperation with
Crown International. Featuring Crown's exclusive
BCA (Balanced Current
Amplification) technology, the DrivePack
modules incorporate Class-I
circuitry for lower noise and distortion
specifications than other high-power
switching amplifiers.
Onboard precision bandpass limiting, pre-equalization
filters and
automatic self-test functions ensure optimized performance.
The optional networked DPCN (Cobranet™-compatible) input
modules enable the JBL VERTEC DP
Series systems to link
seamlessly with other audio products with Harman Professional's
HiQnet™ system,
providing remote access to system
functionality and digital speaker presets with HiQnet System
Architect™ software. Configurable software panels for remote
control and monitoring address not only the JBL
DrivePack-equipped loudspeakers, but also other HiQnet-compliant audio
products from Harman Professional companies integrated into
the sound system. These include Crown I-Tech 6000CN power
amplifiers to support ancillary loudspeakers in the sound
reinforcement system. Signal processing facilities include
BSS
Soundweb London BLU-80's, BSS DPR-504 quad gate/
expanders and dbx 1066 dual compressor/
limiters along
with Lexicon effects processors.
Soundcraft MH4-56 and MH3-48 mixing consoles are supplied
for respective front-of-house and stage
monitor functions. JBL
SRX712M floor monitors are powered by Crown I-T6000CN
amplifiers. A BSS
Active Splitter System is used to route
broadcast audio signals.
In addition to the main system, the church has two fully functional
breakaway rooms fitted with JBL AE
Series loudspeakers, with
portable racks which can be used for a variety of purposes such
as youth
concerts and educational seminars. The church also
has inhouse translation booths, a recording studio and
a post-
production editing suite. The venue serves up to 5 events per
day, and has already hosted several
international contemporary
music concerts.
"Able to serve touring religious concert artists along with the
daily needs of a modern house of worship,
this powered line
array system installation with networked digital audio sets a new
reference standard for
sound reinforcement in southern Africa," noted David Scheirman, Vice President, Tour Sound, JBL
Professional. "Careful upfront work by the sound system design
team, coupled with the meticulous
craftsmanship and onsite
technical support from Wild and Marr's engineering group, has
resulted in the
highly successful implementation of leading-edge audio products from JBL and other members of the
Harman
Pro group."
