HIGH-PROFILE PROJECTS HIGHLIGHT A YEAR OF SUCCESS FOR JBL PROFESSIONAL LSR6300 SERIES STUDIO MONITORS

Notable projects include top motion pictures, television broadcasts and music releases.

FRANKFURT, GERMANY, April 6, 2005 — Reaffirming the unmatched sonic integrity and innovative design of the LSR6300 Series studio monitors, JBL Professional enters the ProLight + Sound/MusikMesse Frankfurt 2005 show with a year’s worth of successful projects in music recording, film production, and television broadcast. This year of achievement was crowned by a Technical GRAMMY® at the 47th Annual GRAMMY® Awards, presented to JBL for outstanding technical contribution to the recording field.

Recently, LSR6300 monitors were installed in the production control rooms of the GRAMMY® Awards telecast. The LSR6300s were selected by the audio production team, led by producer and Advisor to the Awards Telecast, Phil Ramone, and Michael Abbott, Grammy Audio Technical Manager. Ramone and Abbott viewed LSR6300 sonic performance and its built-in RMC™ Room Mode Correction system as a key advantage when producing audio elements and monitoring in five different rooms: The 5.1 music mix room, audience reaction mix room , audio tape playback room, the sweetening room, and the viewing room where Recording Academy executives monitored the broadcast. “We needed a dependable system that would give us equal voicing in all rooms and the JBL LSR6300s delivered,” said Ramone. In one of the highest-profile studio projects, Frank Filipetti and Phil Ramone are currently mixing Paul Simon's Graceland for DVD-A release in Ramone's studio, using the LSR6300 system. According to Filipetti, the LSR’s proprietary Room Mode Correction (RMC) technology came in handy for the mixing process, since Ramone’s studio is constructed in what was once a barn with very high ceilings. “There were some low frequency standing waves we needed to eliminate,” Filipetti said. “With the JBL system, we were able to actually fine-tune the room, get a much better idea what was going on in the low end."
Accomplished engineer Nathaniel Kunkel, recently based the monitoring of his mobile Studio Without Walls concept around the LSR6300 Series. Transporting his studio to wherever the music takes him, Kunkel realized he needed monitoring that could provide accuracy in each new setting and therefore chose the LSR6300 system with Room Mode Correction (RMC™). Upon completion of recent Crosby Nash and Keane albums, Kunkle commented “These speakers translate, and do it well. I have been very happy with my tracks and my mixes, in both stereo and surround. I can’t imagine working without them."
In the world of film, it’s essential elements and stems produced in editorial rooms translate well to the dubbing stage and ultimately the theater. Chris Fogel, one of Hollywood’s A-list scoring engineers, installed a new LSR6300 studio monitor system for surround mixing and recording music scores of major feature film projects, including Wimbledon and 13 Going on 30. “The main thing for me about the LSR6300 Series is the positive comment coming back from the dubbing stage: ‘We’re not making any changes, it’s translating great,’” Fogel said.
Dreamworks’ animated feature, Shark Tale, which took the box office record for the largest October theatrical release in history, was sound designer Wade Wilson’s most recent project on a resumé that includes, among many others, Shrek and Mystic River, and The Perfect Storm. Wilson relied upon the balanced clarity of JBL LSR6328P loudspeakers with RMC Room Mode Correction to create the sound environment. “I have been using the new LSR6300’s because they translate so well to the dubbing stage,” said Wilson. “They give me a sound that’s so full and round and everything is so present in the mix. I can’t find another speaker that produces that way for me.”
