| ORLANDO,
FLORIDA, November 11, 2005 — In a historic demonstration
of the versatility and unmatched power of the JBL Professional
VERTEC® line array, legendary rock trio Cream played three nights
to sold-out crowds in New York City’s Madison Square Garden.
The shows, held October 24-26, featured a sound system provided
by Sound Image of Escondido, CA.
Renowned throughout the world as a provider of premium audio
systems Sound Image has been a longtime VERTEC customer, while
Clapton has used VERTEC for his solo concerts over the past
year. Handling front of house duties was Robert Collins, who
has worked with Clapton since 1989.
To achieve the necessary 360-degree coverage at Madison Square
Garden (seats were sold behind the stage), Sound Image president
David Shadoan and Touring Manager Jim Douglas supplied 96 VERTEC
VT4889 line array elements, supplemented by 16 VT4880 subwoofers.
According
to Douglas, the VERTEC rig was a natural choice because of
its light weight and power. “With the lighter weight
of the VERTEC line array, we were able to hang 96 speakers in
the air without obstructing sightlines,” he said.
Additionally,
the VERTEC line arrays eliminated much of the guesswork that
goes into hanging a sizeable live sound system. “Madison
Square Garden is a great-sounding room, but it is quite reverberant,
so you really have to keep the levels under control,” Shadoan
commented. “We used VERTEC because we can predict the coverage
before we even hang the arrays.”
JBL’s
VERTEC VT4889 was the first in a growing family of line array
system products that now includes the VT4880, VT4881
and VT4882 subwoofers along with mid-and small sized line array
elements and the new self-powered VERTEC DP Series. The enclosures
can be mixed and matched to accommodate nearly any concert, special
event or other sound reinforcement application.
