AND PD SERIES PROVIDE INSPIRATIONAL SOUND TO COMPASS POINT BIBLE CHURCH LAS VEGAS, NEVADA, March 16, 2006 — Highlighting its ability to provide the church market with carefully configured loudspeaker systems that meet the dual demands of cost effectiveness and high performance, JBL Professional announced it had provided VERTEC? line arrays working in conjunction with Precision Directivity Series loudspeakers to Yake Engineered Systems of Kitchener, Ontario for an installation at Compass Point Bible Church in Burlington, Ontario. Compass Point Bible Church had a 17-year-old sound system and wanted to upgrade to a state of the art system. They turned to Yake Engineered Systems to design and specify a modern system that would match the level of any performing arts center in the area. Yake has specialized in church audio for 28 years and has tried to match the needs of that cost conscious market that is also increasingly demanding the highest level performance, once reserved only for the higest end performing arts centers. “We have significant experience with JBL and other Harman products,” said David Yake, owner of Yake Engineered Systems. “JBL has good product and really backs it up with excellent “real world” application engineering support and warranty, which is a key thing in the church market where they don’t usually have full-time qualified technical people. That support, and the fact that we’ve had nothing but fabulous comments about the performance keeps us connected to JBL.” At Compass Point Bible Church, the sanctuary auditorium featured a 45-foot concrete wall in the back of the church that caused high level reflections. Yake had to do a complete acoustical analysis of the space. For that he used EASE acoustic simulation software that includes numerous acoustical design and analysis tools. Treatment was required on both the back and partial side walls, which in itself improved sound dramatically. The church is designed to seat 900 people in a rectangular area on the sloped floor in front of the platform that runs the width of the church. There are also two side areas that seat about 250 people where the seats face in. Yake had to take the seating design into consideration in addition to the fact that the church features a lot of contemporary music and dramatic productions as well as the choir. The praise and worship bands use contemporary amplified instrumentation. All those considerations dictated a compact, yet powerful line array that would provide both clarity and coverage. Yake’s design called for a hanging center line array of seven JBL VERTEC VT4888s. To ensure proper coverage of the odd-angled side seating areas, Yake specified two JBL PD5212/64s. The low frequency demands so necessary in contemporary praise music were handled with two extremely cost effective JBL SRX728 subwoofers and are installed under the front platform. The stage monitors also had to provide accuracy and power for the band members and Yake specified four JBL MP412s. “We rounded out the system with a Soundcraft MH3/48 mixing board and all the power is supplied by Crown I-Tech amps,” said Yake. “Their sound operator recently called and was extremely happy with the sound of the VERTECs and the overall system performance.” About JBL Professional: Headquartered in Northridge, California, JBL Professional is the world’s leading designer, manufacturer, and marketer of professional loudspeakers for recording and broadcast, musician, cinema, touring sound, commercial sound and contracting applications.
