| LIVERPOOL,
U.K. – September 15, 2003 – Adlib Audio
is providing a large-venue JBL VerTec™ system to support the
European leg of the current David Bowie tour. Adlib’s crew
and system embark upon a 3-month, 14-country European trek at
the end of this month. The stage monitor and mixing equipment
package for Bowie’s world tour is being supplied by Bryan
Olson’s Firehouse Productions of New York.
Adlib Audio, established
in 1984 to offer professional concert sound services to the
entertainment industry, has grown to become
a full-service production provider, sound system installer, and
pro audio retail supplier. The first purchaser of JBL’s
VerTec system in England when the product was launched in 2000,
Adlib will be providing JBL’s full-size VT4889 line array
elements with VT4880 arrayable subwoofers for the David Bowie
tour, along with the newer VT4888 midsize enclosure.
“We’ve always focused on trying to achieve excellent
results in live sound production, regardless of client or venue
type,” advised Adlib’s co-owner and Chief Engineer
Dave Kay. “It’s always been important to us to transfer
that pursuit of quality in live mixing and system design over
to the choices we make when acquiring new audio inventory. With
a significant and expanding demand for the system from a broad
range of international touring artists like David Bowie, VerTec
has proven to be an excellent investment for us. The other line
array elements in the VerTec range enable us to provide very
versatile and lightweight solutions to a wide range of clientele
utilizing the VT4888s and VT4887s.”
The tour promotes
Bowie’s new album, Reality, which was
released today on Iso/Columbia Records. Cinemas across Europe
and North America received a live 5.1-channel surround sound
transmission of the first concert, staged on September 8th and
produced as a special event by Sony Music from the Riverside
Studios in Hammersmith, and delivered globally in digital format
by the U.K.-based Quantum Digital Network.”
David Bowie’s European tour includes concerts in France,
Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Scandinavia and the Benelux
region. The tour, which runs through the end of November, finishes
with shows at major U.K. venues including The Point in Dublin,
Manchester’s Evening News Arena, Birmingham’s NEC,
and Wembley Arena in London.
“It’s very gratifying for all of us at JBL Professional
to see the unquestioned acceptance of VerTec by a growing number
of international touring artists representing a broad range of
musical styles,” advised David Scheirman, Director of Tour
Sound for JBL. “And, we’re pleased to see Adlib Audio
operating at this level in the sound reinforcement industry with
such a veteran, innovative and discriminating artist client.
Andy Dockerty, Dave Kay, Mark Roberts and the gang at Adlib have
proven time and again that it’s people and service, not
just piles of equipment, that make the difference.”
