FRANKFURT, Germany – After successfully executing the audio for the Commonwealth Games 2010 in Delhi,
large event speciality firm SOUND.COM was contracted to provide the live audio systems for the Opening and
Closing Ceremonies at the 34th Indian National Games at the Ranchi Stadium in Jharkhand. Working with event
production house Core Networks and live production company Cineyug Group, SOUND.COM delivered an
advanced audio solution based around HARMAN JBL VERTEC® line arrays and Soundcraft digital mixing consoles.
The Closing Ceremonies at the Indian National Games included approximately 7,000 athletes marching in front of
an audience of nearly 45,000 people. Following an air display, entertainment included Indian musicians, Bollywood
stars, a laser show, a fire dance and a special appearance by popular artist Katrina Kaif. There was also a subevent
titled 'Welcome Kerala' — since this will be the location of next year’s event — with over 300 performers from
that region performing.
The main PA system at both ceremonies consisted of JBL VERTEC VT4889, VT4888 and VT4887 line array
loudspeakers with VT4880 fullsize arrayable subwoofers, powered by Crown I-Tech HD12000 amplifiers.
The primary VERTEC loudspeaker positions each comprised a single VT4880 fullsize subwoofer and either three
VT4889 fullsize line array elements or VT4888 midsize line array elements, distributed across the stadium. VIP
seating areas featured hangs of six VT4887 compact line array elements with a VT4880 subwoofer accompanying
each array. In addition, JBL AC26/28 enclosures were used as fill speakers for podium-area monitoring.
SOUND.COM also fielded a Soundcraft Vi6 digital console, with a
monitor node rack receiving audio microphone and line signals from
the artists on stage and providing audio outputs to the amplifiers.
Ease of use by multiple operators and fiber optic snakes running
between the stage and FOH racks made the Vi6 a logical choice for
an event such as this, says SOUND.COM, with all microphone
signals being split to FOH, Monitors and Broadcast.
“I am very proud at the way our team members executed this project
— with veteran engineers like Sunil, Gilroy and Yusuf working in
conjunction with newer staff like Jason, Arvind and Dheeraj,” said
Warren Dsouza, Managing Director and Founder of SOUND.COM.
“They have successfully completed a major audio production while
the company was also busy handling other projects at the same
time. Our client was more than satisfied with the result.”
